De Montfort University Hacking Society
Cyber security, CTF competitions, and hands-on hacking.
Every Thursday at 18:00. All skill levels welcome.
DMU Hackers alumni are working at some of the biggest names in cyber security and beyond.
We take part in capture the flag challenges and face-to-face events, competing as individuals and teams. A perfect way to gain experience and knowledge.
We meet weekly to practice and share cyber security skills: web app hacking, lock picking, binary exploitation and reverse engineering. Everything legal.
Meet people with similar aspirations. Competitions and events provide valuable experience and a chance to impress industry players.
Founded in 2015, DMU Hackers celebrated its 10th anniversary in the 2024/25 academic year. A decade of hacking, learning and building a community.
No experience required. Seriously. Here's what to expect.
Our Discord server is where everything happens - session announcements, challenge hints, memes, and banter. Introduce yourself and say hello.
Rock up to Gateway House 5.53 at 18:00 any Thursday. No prep needed. We'll have something for you to hack whether it's your first day or your fiftieth.
We run beginner-friendly challenges alongside advanced ones. Pair up with a mentor, pick a challenge, and learn by doing. You'll be capturing flags in no time.
Nope. Some challenges involve code, but many don't. We cover everything from lock picking to network analysis. You'll pick things up as you go.
Just yourself! We provide PCs at sessions, but you're welcome to bring your own laptop if you prefer. We recommend having a Linux VM (Kali or Parrot) set up if you do, but it's not essential - we'll help you get sorted.
Absolutely not. We've had members from forensics, business, and engineering. If you're curious about security, you're welcome here.
Capture The Flag - a cyber security competition where you solve challenges (cracking passwords, exploiting websites, reverse engineering binaries) to find hidden "flags". Think of it as puzzle-solving for hackers.
Our flagship CTF competition. Test your skills against challenges in web exploitation, cryptography, reverse engineering and more. Open to all universities.
Our GitHub hosts previous sessions, past CTF challenges and other DMU Hackers resources for our members. Explore writeups, tooling and everything we've built together.
Visit our GitHubDMU's Cyber Security Center gives us a dedicated lab every week, plus access to the DMU Cyber Range for Red vs Blue CTFs and simulated attacks on critical national infrastructure. Our Dual Xeon server hosts vulnerable VMs and CTF infrastructure around the clock.
Workshops, CTF walkthroughs, guest speakers and collaborative hacking.
